Hillclimb Competition Returns To Gunstock
The 96th edition of the Laconia Bike week will take place from June 8 to 16th, 2019 in and around the Laconia, NH area. Included in the week-long festivities is the Gunstock Hillclimb 2019.
The Hillclimb will feature both pro and amateur riders racing towards the top of the 70-meter Torger Tokle Ski Jump at the Gunstock Mountain Resort. The event has been a crowd favorite since it premiered at the US’s oldest Motorcycle Rally.
Longtime event
First sanctioned in 1938, the Hillclimb can trace its roots back to the second year of the rally in 1917. In those days, the Hillclimb was unofficially held on Tower Road. The winners’ reward; only bragging rights.
Hillclimb returns to the Gunstock Mountain Resort on June 12, 2019.
An anticipated crowd of over 7,000 spectators will converge on the Gunstock Mountain Resort to witness AMA Pro Racers from 5 different classes. The pro classes are Verticross, Extreme, Unlimited, and Top 10 All-Star Challenge. In addition, 5 classes of amateurs, 65cc, 125cc, Women, Over 40 and Verticross will all compete for over $20,000 in shared prize money.
5-year deal
The Gunstock Mountain Resort will continue to host the Hillclimb for the next 5 years. Mike Roth, Director of Marketing and Sales at the Gunstock Mountain resort said:
“Gunstock and Ridge Runners have entered into a five year agreement to make the Gunstock Hillclimb a midweek focal point of Bike Week through 2023, the 100th anniversary of Laconia Motorcycle Week. We appreciate everyone’s support to help keep our Lakes Region traditions alive and well for the benefit of our community.”
As a result of the deal, the longstanding Hillclimb tradition and action will continue for at least another 5 years.
All day event passes are available for $20 per person. Kids under 10 years of age are free. Food vendors will be available at the venue but the public is free to bring their own food and beverage.
Gates open at 8:00 AM. Amateurs will kick off the event at 9:00 AM and will continue to 12:00 PM. The pros will then take to the hill from 1:00 PM to 5:00. The award ceremony for all classes will be held shortly thereafter.
