The Red Bull Straight Rhythm competition returns next week, and once again, it’s going to be a smelly blast from the past.

Like the 2018 competition, the 2019 edition of Straight Rhythm will run only two-stroke motorcycles. It’s the competition’s sixth year, and this time around, there’s no factory bikes, just a bunch of hardcore MXers vying for the win.

In case you’re wondering what the Straight Rhythm event is: Sometimes Straight Rhythm is described as a motocross race with no turns, but you could just as accurately call it a drag race with jumps. Red Bull describes the course as a ” ½ mile of rollers, whoops, doubles, tables and all other kinds of rhythmic insanity.” The races take a best-of -three format, with two riders going head-to-head at a time, and each rider having a couple of changes to get a win.

This year, the race runs October 5, with practicing, qualifying and racing all taking place the same day. The finals will run at night, under the lights, in Ponoma, California.

Red Bull’s been promoting this year’s event with a video series; above, you can see the episode teasing Marvin Musquin and Ken Roczen’s appearance this year. Last year, Shane McElrath  won the 250 class, with Ryan Dungey in second and Ryan Villopoto in third. In the 125 class, Carson Brown, AJ Catanzaro and Luke Renzland finished 1-2-3 respectively.

This year’s race will be broadcast on Red Bull TV October 5, but if you’re in the Ponoma area, you can watch it live and in person. Get your tickets here.
