Moto Guzzi’s most popular motorcycle in years, the V 85 TT  is being recalled.  The recalls were announced by Moto Guzzi’s parent company, Piaggio Group Americas. Inc. (Piaggio).

Two separate recalls were issued within a day of each other and involve 1.) a potential final drive leak and 2.) a faulty footrest that may fall off.  The more concerning issue is with the potential final drive oil leak.

Final drive output seal leak

Piaggio says that the bike’s final drive output seal may leak oil onto the rear tire resulting in a crash.  A total of 371 motorcycles could have this problem.  Piaggio will notify owners of affected motorcycles and have dealers inspect the final drive transmission box for an oil leak, and install an extra seal.  If an oil leak is found, both seals and the gasket will be replaced free of charge.

The recall will begin on December 26, 2019.  Owners may contact Piaggio Customer service at (212) 380-4433 and cite Piaggio’s recall number PGJZZQ1904.  Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236 citing NHTSA campaign number 19V857000 or go to NHTSA’s website for additional information.

Footrests may fall off

The second recall concerns the bike’s footrests and affects 399 machines.  The bikes may have a faulty footrest mounting pin retaining clip which may break.  This could allow the footrest to fall off the motorcycle.

Piaggio will notify owners and have dealers inspect the retaining rings on all four footrests.  If any of the clips are found to be defective, the dealer will replace the retaining clips on all four footrest pins free of charge.

This recall will begin on December 26,2019.  Owners may contact Piaggio Customer service at (212) 380-4433 and cite Piaggio’s recall number PGJZZQ1095.  Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236 citing NHTSA campaign number 19V858000 or go to NHTSA’s website for additional information.
