Women are racing again in Europe, specifically in Italy. An all-women racing series organized by EMG Eventi and Moto X racing will resume in April 2020. The series had suspended operations in 2016.
The resurrected series is to be called the Women’s European Cup. Each of the women’s events will coincide with a race date on the ELF CIV racing calendar and be held at major circuits in Italy. Competitors will compete at four different circuits during the 6 round series.
Women’s European Cup Schedule
The current schedule is as follows:
- First Round: April 25 and 26, 2020, Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”
- Second Round: May 23 and 24, 2020, Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari Imola
- Third Round: June 20, 2020, Mugello Circuit
- Fourth Round: June 21, 2020, Mugello Circuit
- Fifth Round: July 25 and 26, 2020, Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”
- Sixth Round: October 3 and 4, 2020, Autodromo Vallelunga “Piero Taruffi”
The Women’s European Cup will feature six events at four different circuits in Italy.
Interestingly, rounds three and four take place back to back on the same weekend at the famous Mugello Circuit. That weekend will certainly be a hectic one. Racers must be ready for two separate rounds in the same weekend. The compressed weekend will surely reduce the time for setup and practice. Competitors will just have to adjust on the fly.
When asked about the reborn series, Moto X Racing Team Manager Sandro Carusi said:
“As a team, we will strive to better support the girls who will participate. In particular, we will be attentive to the needs of female pilots from foreign countries.”
That kind of statement seems to indicate that Carusi intends to grow the series and reach out to female competitors from around the world. That can only be a good thing for women in motorcycle roadracing.
300cc Bikes From Any Manufacturer
Competitors may run 300cc machines from any manufacturer provided that they comply with existing CIV 300SS regulations. That should make for interesting racing as well as keep costs down associated with having to purchase a spec motorcycle for an individual series.
