Politicians in Concord, New Hampshire recently hid behind closed doors and banned motorcycle ice racing.  But on its heels, another city celebrates the activity and will be hosting indoor motorcycle ice racing for charity.

The city of Muskegon, Michigan will host indoor motorcycle ice races at the Mercy Health Arena on March 20th.  Sponsoring the event is the Muskegon Motorcycle Club and Rebel Road.

The Dan Raymond Invitational will raise money for the Chile Abuse Council of Muskegon County.  The invitational will mark the Muskegon Motorcycle Club’s return to indoor racing after a 30-year absence.

Ice racing highlights

The races will feature many different classes or racing for both professional and amateurs as well as age groups.  To make sure that everyone can enjoy the racing, there will also be a race for kids.  Making things even more interesting will be a rubber tire race where competitors will be prohibited from using studs on their tires.

Kyleen Gee, the Executive Director of The Child Abuse Council of Muskegon County had this to say about the event:

“We are excited to bring indoor ice racing back to downtown Muskegon. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Muskegon’s rich motorcycle history while working to prevent child abuse.”

One of the event organizers, the Muskegon Motorcycle Club has quite a long history.  The Club was founded in 1920 four years before the American Motorcyclist Association came into being.  It also hosts a biennial National Hill Climb on its 40 acre Mount Garfield Park site.  This year the Hill Climb will take place on August 2nd.
