Indian Recalls Certain 2020 Challenger Motorcycles

56 vizualizări

Indian is recalling certain 2020 Indian Challenger Motorcycles.  The recall stems from the possibility that the engine output shaft bearing may not have been sufficiently lubricated during assembly.

The lack of sufficient lubricant could result in the bearing’s failure at very low mileage.  Indian says such a failure could cause a sudden loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash.  In all, 616 Challengers may have the defect.

Indian will notify owners, and dealers will lubricate the output shaft bearings on motorcycles with less than 50 miles on the odometer free of charge.  Also, Indian advises Challenger owners having odometers with less than 50 miles to not operate their motorcycle until repairs are completed.  Indian also says that Challengers with more than 50 miles on the odometer will not require repair.

This recall will begin sometime in April 2020.  It is unclear whether the COVID-19 pandemic will affect Indian’s ability to perform inspections and repairs in April.

In the interim, owners may contact Indian Customer Service at 1-877-204-3697 and cite Indian’s recall number I-20-02.  Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at  1-888-327-4236 and quote NHTSA Campaign Number 20V182000, or go to the NHTSA website at
