The moto world is fighing back against COVID-19

As COVID-19 continues its spread around the world, the motorcycle community is handling its response different ways. Some riders are staying home, saying they need to stay safe and out of danger. Others are out riding, saying it’s a great way to enact social distancing.
And then there’s Two Wheels For Life, which is looking to ramp up its medical efforts in Africa.
Two Wheels For Life is the officially supported charity of MotoGP; its website states its goal is “Raising money in the world of motorcycles to fund transport for healthcare programmes in Africa.” Operating in seven African countries, Two Wheels For Life raises money for motorbikes, with the help of MotoGP, and those bikes are used to deliver health care supplies, and for medical workers’ transportation. It’s a practical way of helping out, and it helps change the negative image that motorcyclists have in some circles.
Unfortunately, with MotoGP races getting taken off the schedule (the Le Mans round has just been postponed), the charity’s fundraising ability has been severely restricted. For that reason, Two Wheels For Life put out a statement on MotoGP’s website laying out the situation, and asking fans for personal donations. You can read the important parts below:
We MUST continue our work, particularly now that Coronavirus has now been found in African countries.
If you haven’t already, we ask you to consider setting up even a small monthly donation so we can continue to support the delivery of health services where they are desperately needed – now more than ever.
This disaster is likely to be exacerbated by lack of transport for medical care and supplies. We think that, as in the case of Ebola, motorcycle transport will be essential for making sure medical centres are stocked with necessary drugs and that test results can be returned quickly for diagnosis and to prevent the spread of the virus.
We are keeping in touch, daily, with the Riders for Health programmes we support so we can respond quickly to their urgent and changing needs.
As soon as the MotoGP™ season resumes, we will offer you the same unique experiences and memorabilia as ever, and work closely with Dorna and the MotoGP™ family to raise vital funds.

It’s not just big multi-national organizations working on COVID-19 response. Smaller companies around the world are gearing up to produce medical equipment, and one of them is Connecticut-based Vanson Leathers. No matter where you stand on the should-you-or-shouldn’t-you-wear-a-mask issue, it’s encouraging to see moto-businesses gearing up to do something, instead of just shutting the doors and hoping they’re still in business when everything blows over.
