In the US, professional motorcycle road racing has seen its ups and downs.  But it looks like ex-500cc World Champion (now MotoGP) Wayne Rainey and the MotoAmerica team are about to bring US professional motorcycle road racing back to its former glory.

Not so long ago, a series of management and poor financial decisions led to the series losing its stature.  What was once one of the world’s premier series and makers of MotoGP stars, fell into disarray.  Many thought professional motorcycle road racing in the US was dead.

Racing ressurection

But MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey and the MotoAmerica team set about to return US motorcycle road racing to its previous stature.  And, they have been quite successful in a very short period of time.

MotoAmerica took over the AMA Superbike Series in 2015.  Then in 2018, MotoAmerica announced structural changes to the series’ classes as well as the overall series.  MotoAmerica consistently promoted professional American motorcycle road racing and it seems their efforts have now paid off.

This year, the ten-round series will be televised by Fox Sports.  But in a press release, MotoAmerica is announcing that its reach is now international.

Eurosport broadcast deal

The series has reached a deal with Eurosport to televise the series in Europe.  Eurosports will cover the series’ first-round at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and broadcast the action in the U.K. and France.  From round two onward, the rest of the series will be broadcast all over Europe to a total of 54 countries and territories.

In announcing the deal, MotoAmerica’s President Wayne Rainey had this to say:

“We have a lot of fans in Europe so it’s great that they will be able to watch the MotoAmerica Series this season on Eurosport.  This is a big deal for our series to have Eurosport involved as it will really help our growing fan base in Europe.

I want to thank my partner Chuck Aksland and the people at Eurosport for their tireless work on putting this deal together. We are looking forward to an exciting start to our championship at Road America this weekend and having Eurosport as our overseas television partner makes it even better.”

Eurosport’s live coverage of the first round of the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship from Road America starts on Saturday evening at 9 p.m. CEST/8 p.m. BST with the Supersport race and resumes the following day at 8 p.m. CEST/7 p.m. BST.

For those in the US, the series opener on will be televised on Fox Sports 2.  You can tune in Saturday, and Sunday at 4:00 PM Eastern.
