A Reigate, Surrey man thinks he has found a wartime era motorcycle buried in his neighbor’s backyard.  Peter Dell told SurreyLive that he had been digging up his neighbor’s backyard because of an ant nest.  Once down approximately two feet, he found what he believes is the frame of a motorcycle.

Somewhere down there is an unknown motorcycle.

The find reminded him of a conversation he had with a stranger a few years back.  Dell said that a random man showed up at his property, asking about a motorcycle that may have been buried in or on a well.  Supposedly, the man said that the bike had been buried in the general vicinity shortly after the Second World War.

Mystery man

Dell did not think about it much at the time, so he didn’t get the man’s contact details.  Fast forward a few years, and now, Dell believes he has found the lost motorcycle.  And, he is trying to find the mystery man who inquired about the machine years ago.

When interviewed by SurreyLive, Dell said:

“A chap came maybe a couple or three years ago enquiring about it. He came from Hampshire. We did not know anything about it, but he turned up one day and started to talk about how a motorcycle was buried in or on a well in this area, but wasn’t sure exactly where. That is all I knew, but I found it about a week or so ago.”

“The reason why I have been digging it up is my neighbour was having a garden party and noticed the large hole in the ground that turned out to be an ants’ nest. But while digging it up we came across the bike. As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of the conversation I had with the man all that time ago. The hole is about two foot deep.”

Dell says the man knew where it was in the general area, but not exactly where it was.  All he knew was it was buried in or on the well.  He did not know exactly when it was buried, but it was a long time ago just after the war.  Dell added that his neighbour spent quite a lot of time talking to him, but now can’t find him.

Needs help

Mr. Dell and his neighbor are now asking for help to find the man who asked about the bike.  They want to know how and why the motorcycle rests in the ground of his neighbor’s backyard.
