Your wife of almost 37 years wants to buy you an extraordinary present.  What should she get you?  Well, in the case of motorcycle and car dealer Maurice Slaughter, she gets you a 2020 Ducati Superleggera V4 motorcycle.  The pricetag?  A cool $100,000.

The story of the extra special present started years ago when Slaughter and his wife Cynthia, toured the Ducati factory.  It was there that Cynthia learned about the then-upcoming new batch of Superleggera machines.  Made in batches, the Superleggera V4 can only be purchased through pre-orders.  And, that’s precisely what Cynthia did.

Surprise present

While her husband Maurice was in another part of the Ducati factory, Cynthia cut a $20,000 check as a deposit then and there.  She shared her upcoming surprise with their two children, Tiara and Will, but otherwise kept the big-ticket purchase a secret.

That is until the bike arrives from Italy at a New Jersey port.  At that point, the jig was almost up.  It was at that time that Cynthia had to tell Maurice about his present since it would soon be arriving at the dealership, Maurice’s dealership.  Actually, one of Maurice’s dealerships.

Maurice is the Chairman and CEO of MS Family Enterprises, Inc., which owns Bayside Harley-Davidson / Ducati of Portsmouth, Virginia, Outer Banks Harley-Davidson near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and District Harley-Davidson/Bugatti/BMW in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  So it’s not so surprising that the Slaughters can afford a new Superleggera V4.

When asked about the present by Inside Business, Maurice said that he really didn’t believe it at first.

Unbelievable,” Slaughter said Wednesday when it arrived at his dealership. “This bike, as an enthusiast, is just unreal. It’s a piece of art. The craftsmanship is unreal.”

Of the 500 Superleggera V4s produced, Slaughter’s is number 130.  Maurice plans to show off the machine in at least two of his dealerships.  First up will be Bayside Harley-Davidson / Ducati.  After a few weeks, Slaughter says he plans to carefully pack it up and trailer it to his dealership in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

After giving Maurice his new present, Cynthia reportedly said in a joking manner, “I can’t wait to see my Christmas gift.”  Well, Maurice, you have your work cut out for you!
