Not so long ago, we told you about Triumph’s newest upcoming triple cylinder machine, the Trident.  Now, Triumph’s website shows pictures of a “camouflaged” Trident that they say is in final testing.

The bike has a decidedly retro look.  Its round headlight, round dash display, relatively flat wide handlebar, single-piece seat, and minimal bodywork harken back to earlier times.  But a water-cooled three-cylinder engine, upsidedown forks, triple-disc brakes, rear-mounted hugger, and large exhaust canister scream modern.

Triumph Trident

Triumph’s new Trident triple is nearly ready for production.

Triumph says that the new Trident is in the final stages of testing.  Their product team is “fine-tuning” the new machine for characteristics that Triumph says will be the “first choice for a new generation of Triumph riders.”  The British brand claims that the new Trident brings “all the advantages of a triple to the category, with class-leading technology as standard, and an agile and rider-friendly chassis and ergonomics.”

Trident four-year development

The new Trident prototype is the result of a 4-year development plan.  A dedicated team in Triumph’s design facility in Triumph’s UK global headquarters has been toiling to bring the new roadster to market.

The Hinckley design team’s goal, working in coordination with Rodolfo Frascoili, was to deliver a “…distinctive, dynamic and attractive new take on Triumph style and attitude.”  Frascoili has experience with Triumph’s ethos as he earlier helped in the design of Triumph’s latest generation Tiger 900.

According to Triumph, the result of the team’s work is a bike that delivers a distinctive and confident stance and the perfect balance of an engaged, agile, and dynamic ride.

Although the Trident is camouflaged in the company’s newly released images, the pictures are quite clear.  This suggests that the bike is very close to production readiness.  And it needs to be.  According to Triumph, the new Trident will be available in the Spring of 2021.
