With the MotoAmerica roadracing series as well as international series all seeing the end of the season in sight, the riders are all trying to nail down their rides for next year. Last week, two prominent American riders both made moves in Moto2. Joe Roberts switched to a new team, and Cameron Beaubier is supposedly from MotoAmerica to Moto2.

Beaubier’s been a force in MotoAmerica for years; he just clinched his fifth title at the Indianapolis weekend (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020) and he’s won most of this year’s Superbike races. He had a taste of World Superbike a while back, but he’s really been making a living roadracing in the US for the past decade or so while his fans all ask, why not move on to World Superbike?

At the time of writing, the hot gossip is that Beaubier finally has a deal with the big show, sort of. He’s supposedly moving to Moto2’s Tennor American Racing Team, signing a two-year deal. That’s an interesting move, as Moto2 is very much a support class to MotoGP, while World Superbike might be considered a lesser series, but it is the pinnacle of street-legal motorcycle racing, where Beaubier’s been making his bones.

Roadracing World published the news about Beaubier (and MotoGP semi-confirmed it) as word came that another rider from the US, Joe Roberts, is moving. Roberts (pictured above) put in an impressive ride in the season opener at Qatar and hasn’t slowed down since. He’s moving over to the  Italtrans Racing Team. He’s earned one podium and three pole starts so far this year, the first American rider since Nicky Hayden to get three poles in a season. He’s still searching for that first win, though, and it won’t be easy in the cuthroat Moto2 scene, as the season is running out.
