If the KTM 390 Adventure isn’t small enough for you, KTM is giving you another choice.  The Austria manufacturer will soon release a 250 Adventure model.  That is if you live in certain countries.

Currently, the KTM Malaysia and KTM India websites feature the 2021 250 Adventure.

Both KTM websites say:

 The KTM 250 ADVENTURE is the lightweight entry into the exciting world of KTM travel. Perfect for daily commuting and even venturing out a little further into the unknown, this compact, powerful, and agile all-rounder will keep you going long after the paved roads have ended. On tarmac, this bike is sporty and loads of fun to ride, it then draws on KTM’s rally experience to ensure it is capable when the terrain gets a little rougher. Its distinctive design was inspired by the successful KTM rally bikes, but their influence is not limited to just the design, long days in the desert teach you how to balance comfort and performance when travelling great distances.

KTM 250 Adventure – different engine

Power will come from a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder, four-stroke 250cc engine.   KTM claims the engine will make 22kW (about 29hp) and provide 24Nm (around 18 lb-ft) of torque.

The KTM 250 Adventure is coming to at least Malaysia and India. There’s no word on whether it will come to the US.

The engine is cradled by a steel trellis frame that some reports say is identical to the frame found in the 390 Adventure.   And the similarities to the 390 Adventure do not stop there.  Both the 390 Adventure and 250 Adventure use a WP APEX 43 fork and a WP APEX monoshock.  Both feature suspension travel of 170 mm (6.7″) and 177 mm (7″) at the front and rear respectively.  And, both machines have 200 mm (7.9″) of ground clearance.

Braking is provided by a four-piston radial caliper at the front and a single-piston floating caliper at the rear.  In addition, the bike’s brake rotors are the same size at the front and rear on both Adventure models.  Each machine features Bosch ABS as standard.

As for weight, the two machines are pretty close.  KTM’s website claims that the 250 Adventure’s dry weight is 156kg (343 lbs), while the 390 Adventure tips the scales at 158kg (348 lbs.) dry.

So when all is said and done, the 250 Adventure seems to be very close to its larger sibling with the exception of the engine and some electronics.  There’s no official word on pricing, but sources say the MSRP may be around $3,500 (converted from the Indian Rupee).
