Popular custom bike website Bike EXIF announced it’s now part of the Iron & Air media group, although it’s unclear exactly what the practical results of this move are.

If you’re interested in custom cafe racers, brats, scramblers or other errrrr “hipster-friendly” bikes, chances are you’ve read Bike EXIF before, or at least followed its extremely influential Instagram page. Publisher Chris Hunter founded the page in 2008, and it’s published photos and write-ups of many, many extremely creative customs. Along with its digital publishing Bike EXIF also has published two books and done some collaboration with other printed magazines.

Now, Bike EXIF is going to be collaborating with US-based Iron & Air. It’s a team-up that makes sense, because Iron & Air covers the same sort of bikes and products that Bike EXIF users are into. Based in New Hampshire, Iron & Air prints a 114-page quarterly; now, Bike EXIF says “We’ll get access to Iron & Air’s treasure trove of content, and in turn, we’ll be introducing some Bike EXIF favorites to the world of high-end print.” Expect some sort of content sharing between the two platforms, then. Bike EXIF’s announcement goes on to say “Our combined mission is still to connect custom builders and switched-on brands to a passionate audience of millions. We now have even more resources to do that. And in the meantime, we’re making plans to expand into uncharted waters and amplify the custom scene even more.”

All Bike EXIF’s staff are staying around for now, according to the announcement. No doubt there will be more announcements as to Bike EXIF’s future with Iron & Air in the coming weeks. It’s worth noting two things here, though. First, Bike EXIF is still publishing, unlike so many print mags that have folded the past few years. Second, this is a case of print media acquiring a digital entity, and that’s a very rare thing in the moto publishing world these days.
