The partnership between Suzuki Motor of America and Joe Gibbs Racing MX (JGRMX) is over.  According to a Suzuki press release, the two organizations have concluded their partnership.  The reason for the break is not clear.

Suzuki teamed with JGRMX to help bolster its chances of winning again in AMA national level Supercross and Motocross.  The Suzuki factory hasn’t taken an AMA Supercross title since 2010.  Suzuki’s fared just a little better in the 450 National Motocross Championship by taking a title in 2016.

Suzuki Racing is moving on without JGRMX.

But since then, the brand has seen little in the line of championships.  Without results, deals like the one with JGRMX almost always fail.  And this is likely the reason for the two companies parting ways.

But Suzuki was upbeat in its press release, saying:

“The combined efforts of Suzuki and JGRMX were able to deliver solid results and raise the level of performance of each of the team’s riders.  Together, Suzuki and JGRMX demonstrated the potential of the Suzuki RM-Z250 and RM-Z450 motocross machines over several successful racing seasons.”

Chris Wheeler, Suzuki’s MX Support Manager, had this to say about the split:

“Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. is honored to have worked with a premier racing partner like Joe Gibbs Racing.  This partnership produced solid success and many strong friendships over the past several seasons and we would like to thank the entire team at JGRMX for their hard work, passion, and dedication to Suzuki racing.”

Wheeler went on to say that Suzuki will announce its plans for the upcoming 2021 Supercross and Motocross racing season in the coming days.
