Yamaha R6 RACE To Be Available In Europe

We recently told you about the Yamaha YZF-R6 being discontinued in the USA and Europe.  But it seems there is a little R6 light at the end of the tunnel.  If you are a track day or club racing fanatic living in Europe, you need not worry about the bike’s cancellation.  Although the street version will no longer be produced, Yamaha says that the R6 will be available as a track-only machine called the R6 RACE.

Unfortunately for those of us in the US, the R6 RACE will only be available in Europe unless Yamaha changes its mind about US deliveries.

Yamaha R6 RACE

Yamaha’s R6 RACE track only bike.

The track-only machine will offer a 599cc DOHC inline four-cylinder engine with titanium valves.  A Deltabox aluminum frame cradles the engine and connects to a magnesium subframe.  KYB is providing the suspension components, but Ohlins components will also be available.  The bike will have electronics like traction control, Yamaha D modes, and a ride by wire throttle.

Not homologated

Since the bike isn’t homologated, Yamaha can do pretty much what they want with the track day weapon.  If you want more than Yamaha’s standard R6 RACE, you’ll be able to get the R6 GYTR Stage 1 kit, which contains lots of tidbits to make your track machine even more capable.

The Yamaha R6 RACE outfitted with GYTR Stage 1 components.

The GYTR kit includes such niceties as:

  • full titanium Akrapovic exhaust,
  • stainless steel brake lines,
  • new reprogrammable ECU,
  • a lightweight wiring harness,
  • an interface cable,
  • AIS plug set,
  • ABS emulator,
  • keyless fuel cap,
  • fully-adjustable racing rear sets, with an optional GP pattern (reverse) shifting kit
  • seat cushion,
  • front brake lever guard,
  • rear sprocket guard,
  • rear paddock stand spindles,
  • paddock stand.

Pricing and availability

Yamaha says the bike will be available in January 2021.  Pricing is TBA.
