Kawasaki Motors Corp, USA (KMC) is recalling certain 2021 Ninja ZX-14R motorcycles for a potentially faulty front brake master cylinder.  The bike’s master cylinder may be missing a component.  As a result, KMC says that the defect could cause “inconsistent front braking force.”

More specifically, the missing component could interfere with the hydraulic fluid’s intended flow in certain situations.  KMC says that if the internal component is missing, the hydraulic force applied by the front brake can be “inconsistent.”  As a result, the rider may experience reduced front brake
actuation, braking force, and/or lever pressure. This issue could cause a crash resulting in injury or death.

As a result, KMC is issuing a DO NOT RIDE statement in its notification letter.  Fortunately, only 84 motorcycles potentially have this defect.

KMC will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder free of charge.  This recall began on December 4, 2020.  For further information, owners may contact Kawasaki customer service at 1-866-802-9381 and cite Kawasaki’s recall number of MC20-11.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
