The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is announcing its Ice Race Grand Championship Schedule.  In a press release, the AMA says America’s finest motorcycle ice racers will have two opportunities to compete for AMA #1 plates in 2021. The two events will occur three weeks apart in January and February in Wisconsin.

First event

The first event will be a “Grand Prix-style” competition on January 17, 2021. It is running in conjunction with the Steel Shoe Fund‘s annual three-hour endurance race. These events will run on Kettle Moraine Late at the Tiki Beach Bar and Resort in Campbellsport, Wisconsin. Making things even more interesting is the circuit’s design. It is once again an AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Jeff Fredette circuit.

The event’s promoter, Chris DaRonco, said:

“We look forward to providing a challenging 6-plus-mile course on Kettle Moraine Lake. We’re working on some exciting changes to our program to make the event better than last year and to comply with any state and local orders regarding COVID-19. We look forward to hosting riders from all over and awarding those highly coveted AMA National No. 1 plates.”

If you are not familiar with the Steel Shoe Fund, it is a non-profit organization that assists flat-track motorcycle racers who have been seriously injured during competition in the continental United States.

Second event

The second event is the High Voltage Ice Race and will take place on February 6, 2021. The circuit is a half-mile oval on Miller’s Bay in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. With AMA sanctioning, 2021 will be the second year that the High Voltage Ice Races will have AMA Grand Championship status.

Ron Brefka of iRon Enterprises is organizing the event. Proceeds will go to support pancreatic cancer research. There is no admission fee for spectators. However, donations to the We Care Fund are being encouraged.

About the race, event organizer Ron Brefka said:

“The High Voltage Ice Races are proud and excited to host the AMA Ice Race Grand Championship Oval for the second straight year. We again will have spectacular ice racing at a great venue. And while our Grand Championship will be an absolutely great event for racers and spectators, we also will be supporting cancer research with donations to the We Care Fund for Medical Innovation and Research at the Medical College of Wisconsin.”

Each of the two events will be scored separately. Class winners at each event will get an AMA National #1 plate.
