Ducati Recalls XDiavel For Faulty Side Stands
Ducati is recalling approximately 1,600 XDiavel motorcycles. The affected bikes are certain 2016 – 2018 XDiavel S and XDiavel STD models. The problem stems from a faulty side stand bracket. According to the recall, the side stand bracket may fatigue under load, resulting in the assembly’s failure and a potential for the motorcycle to fall when stationary on the stand.
Since September 2019, Ducati received a “few” reports about the affected motorcycles leaning excessively when parked. Thereafter, they received additional reports of broken side stand brackets.
After analyzing each of the cases, Ducati’s internal safety commission has decided to launch a recall campaign for the affected machines. Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will install a new side stand bracket free of charge.
Regardless of warranty status, units affected by this recall will be covered at no charge to the customer. This includes reimbursement for pre-notice recall repairs that meet Ducati North America’s standards. It also includes support for roadside assistance needed to reach a Ducati-authorized repair facility. In addition, Ducati may reimburse owners for the cost of remedies before the recall under Ducati’s general reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.
The recall will begin on March 15, 2021. In the interim, owners may contact Ducati Customer Service at 1-888-391-5446 and cite Ducati recall SRV-RCL-21-001.
Or owners may call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Additional information is also available online at NHTSA’s website.
