Got aeros? Thanks to aftermarket manufacturer Rizoma, you can now add aerodynamics to your modern superbike, by simply replacing the mirror.

The new Rizoma Stealth mirrors are dual-purpose gadgets. On the street, they serve as standard rearview mirrors, letting you know when the dreaded fuzz are on your tail. On the track the mirrors turn into aerodynamic winglets, providing downforce.

Sounds trick, but the design is very simple. These look like a standard set of aftermarket rearviews, when they’re in the upright position. They’re a bit small, maybe, but probably won’t attract undue attention from law enforcement. The Rizoma Stealth mirrors mount to the fairing by a fixed stalk, same as any other mirror.

If you want winglets, not rearviews, the glass part of the mirror rotates downwards 90 degrees, creating a set of fairing-mount winglets. The winglets are at a 25-degree angle to the ground; Rizoma’s website says they provide 4 kilos of downforce at 300 km/h, with both mirrors closed.

Aeros are starting to come standard on production superbikes, but even if your bike has a factory aerodynamic system, it’s possible you’d want to enhance that capability with the Rizoma mirrors, for trackdays.

For more details on the system, head over to Rizoma’s website. Rizoma has a list of bikes the Stealth mirrors can be fitted to; each superbike series has its own design, as the mirrors must work around each design’s individual bodywork. At this point, it seems you can get a kit for most litrebikes, including the Honda CBR1000RR-R, Kawasaki ZX-10R, Yamaha R1,, Ducati Panigale V2 and V4, Suzuki GSXR-1000 and BMW S1000RR. It’s not cheap; the mirror system costs 399 euros, which is almost $500 USD after you convert currencies. You could get on-track training for that kind of money … but buy the mirrors and you’ll be super-cool at the track, and that’s all that really matters, innit?
