After dropping a sneak peek of the Triumph Tiger Sports 660 earlier this week, we’ve got video of the bike in action now as well! And, Triumph says it’s in final testing, so we’d expect a full launch soon:

So what does it tell us? Not much more than the original photos. The blurb on the YouTube video simply says “The Triumph team have been testing the final prototype of a new Tiger that is set to transform the middleweight adventure sports category and deliver a new benchmark in specification, capability, performance and style.

Not much meat on those bones, is there? It is interesting to note that Triumph calls this an “Adventure Sports” bike, leaving us to wonder: Is this going to be the next great hybrid category, picking up where sport-touring left off?

That’s basically the market for this bike, really. It appears to have the same 17-inch cast wheels and Michelin Road 5 tires as the standard Trident 660 model. Maybe we’ll see something slightly more aggressive on the production version of the Tiger 660, but we wouldn’t bet on it.

Elsewhere, the suspension also seems mostly the same as well, and the frame.

The reality is that it’s highly profitable for Triumph to produce a bike that looks like an ADV, but with limited capability. It’s the same crossover concept that sold mini-SUVs to a million soccer moms.

There’s nothing wrong with that, either, if that’s what you’re looking for. To a certain extent, this is what the Suzuki V-Strom 650, Honda CB500X and Kawasaki Versys 650 already do, and given Triumph’s pricing on the 660 series, we’d expect this machine to compete with all those bikes on MSRP. Good news, budget-minded ADVers; your choices get better and broader every year.
