The International Six Days Enduro is a wrap for 2021, and as you’d expect, the hometown teams did very, very well.

Running in Italy’s Lombardia-Piemonte, it’s probably no surprise that Italy took the top spot in the World Trophy rankings, and also took top spot in the Junior World Trophy. However, it was a different story in the Women’s World Trophy class, where the USA’s team was tops overall.

After the race were over, the Italians were understandably chuffed, as it was a great performance in front of their countrymen as spectators.

“What is important is that Italy won the World Trophy and Junior World Trophy classes, and I was also the fastest Enduro1 rider overall,” said Andrea Verona, who rode a GasGas for this year’s ISDE. “To be an Italian and to be a part of your national team competing and winning at home, it’s incredible.”

Spanish rider Josep Garcia (also a member of KTM’s factory enduro team) was very happy as well; his team managed second overall in the World Trophy chase, and Garcia himself was the top rider in this year’s competition, after two previous finishes in second place.

“This is a dream come true for me,” Garcia said after the racing was done. “To win the overall, to finish second with Spain in the World Trophy, it’s been an incredible week. Right now I am so happy, also with the pressure gone, it’s a crazy mix of emotions. When you have finished second overall twice, and you set the goal to win overall, well, there is so much that goes into trying to go one better than before.”

Hrm. Wonder if we’ll see him suiting up for Dakar, in a few years?

As for the USA’s women’s team, Brandy Richards (riding a KTM) was the star of this year’s race. ”

“Today’s been the cherry on an awesome ISDE cake for me, I’ve managed to win each and every special test during this year’s ISDE,” Richard said post-race. “It’s what I set out to do, and I’ve done it. It’s pretty surreal, it hasn’t really sunk in yet. I really upped my training ahead of this event, and it paid off.”

For our Canadian readers, you may be disappointed to hear that the Canuck team finished seventh overall in the World Trophy standings; while not the result they hoped for, the Canadians still beat out Brazil, Belgium and Germany in the top 10.
