$5,000 SONDORS Metacycle Deliveries Begin In Q1, 2022
Not too long ago, we told you about the electric SONDORS Metacycle. Its projected performance and range numbers are somewhat mediocre compared to some competitors. But what sets the SONDORS machine apart from the others is its very low manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $5,000.
Metacycle Features
At that price point, an urban commuting machine with a top speed of 80 mph and a range of 80 miles seems very reasonable. An electric motorcycle that can easily reach highway speeds is somewhat of a gamechanger. And, it packs a 14.5 kW Permanent Magnet Alternating Current (PMAC) hub motor and a 4,000-watt-hour battery. With these specs, it’s clear that the Metacycle is not a ruggedized bicycle.

Charging
SONDORS also claims a “never before seen battery innovation” that offers greater EV cell life span and more continuous power. With the bike’s included 15A/1.0 kW compact charger, SONDORS says the Metacycle will provide a complete charge from a standard U.S. home outlet in 3 hours and 45 minutes. Charging time to an 80% state of charge is two hours.
Weighing in at “about 7 pounds” and with a size of 8 X 4 X 3 inches, SONDORS says that the Metacycle’s charger is easily transportable when the destination requires more than one charge.
Testing
The bike is presently in accelerated durability testing. SONDORS says the bike’s motor and controller are completing 9,000 problem-free miles per day. And they say that the Metacycle’s drivetrain has now accumulated over 300,000 miles of testing without any major issues. As for the battery, it has undergone more than 1,000 charge and discharge cycles.
If the 4 kW battery isn’t enough for you, you will be able to purchase an auxiliary 3 kW battery that will reside in the open space normally occupied by a fuel tank. There will also be two optional accessories that will allow you to connect to a Level 2 charger for use at public charging stations.
If SONDORS’ claims are true, the Metacycle could find itself with a significant market of would-be electric motorcycle riders. What do you think about the bike? Let us know in the comments below.
