The 2021 GEICO AMA EnduroCross series will kick off this weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This year, the six-round series has an all-new class; the Junior Trials category debuts at Tulsa, aimed at riders aimed 12-17.

As the name implies, the series is trials bikes, not enduro machines. Organizers say the series is intended to teach younger riders the fundamentals of motorcycle control, teaching them the skills needed to handle a bike on tricky technical terrain.

“GasGas, Sherco and Beta have all embraced the idea of bringing back a Trials bike class to EnduroCross and we collectively decided to limit it to amateur youth riders,” said series organizer Tod Hammock. “This class is aimed at developing the skills of the younger riders and will allow them to compete inside an arena full of fans to show off the capabilities of trials bikes.”

The past 12 AMA EnduroCross titles have gone to Colton Haakar, Cody Webb and Taddy Blazusiak; all those riders have strong trials backgrounds. We see similar revolutions in other disciplines, with former trials riders also taking over the world of hard enduro and even rally raid racing now.

According to the EnduroCross website, there will be a maximum of 48 entries in the new class. It’s open to all riders NATC JR Clubman through JR Expert Sportsman (NATC Green White Blue Lines), but no Red or Black Line riders, no NATC expert or pro riders in this age range, and is not subject to AMA advancement. You can find a list of series-approved bikes and other important entry details here.

Points will not count towards the title in the first five rounds for the Junior Trials category. Instead, the first five races will qualify riders for the final race on October 30, which will be the points race. See the 2021 EnduroCross schedule below:
