Harley-Davidson Serial 1 e-bike spinoff now selling the Number One

Last fall, Harley-Davidson announced its Serial 1 Cycle Company spinoff, an e-bike manufacturer intended to be part of Harley-Davidson’s green path forward. At that point, it showed off the Number One prototype, a retro e-bike that recalled the earliest days of the MoCo’s existence … and then it brought other designs to market that watered down that formula.

Seems like Serial 1 has heard its customers, though, and it’s now bringing the Number One into production, with limited availability.

For some reason, Serial 1 changed the name of the bike to Mosh/Tribute. That’s supposed to somehow appeal to skaters and retro beardsters at the same time? Maybe? I guess it’s better than FXDHGT or whatever else they usually slap on Big Twins. However, H-D (through the Serial 1 subsidiary) wants you to very much keep a mental connection between these e-bikes and the original machines built by Harley-Davidson, particularly Number One, the oldest known Harley-Davidson, which sits ensconced in the company’s Milwaukee museum.

Here’s how Serial 1 describes the new bike:

Based on Serial 1’s MOSH/CTY production model, the MOSH/TRIBUTE holds remarkably true to the original prototype, including rich gloss black paint with gold graphics, distinctive, white-toned Schwalbe Super Moto-X tires (exclusive to Serial 1), a hand-crafted, honey-colored leather saddle and matching leather grips from Brooks England, and a stamped-brass shield mounted to the front signature light.

Behind the special paint and components, the MOSH/TRIBUTE maintains all the features and functionality of the standard MOSH/CTY model, including the maintenance-free Gates Carbon Drive belt, powerful Brose mid-mount motor, smooth TRP hydraulic disc brakes, internally routed cables and wires, and integrated lighting.

So, lots of premium parts then—not an el cheapo, made-in-China budget roadster. In fact, Serial 1 wants a whopping $5,999 for this bike, which puts it well above many practical, fast and fun gas-engined motorcycles.

Serial 1 is building the Mosh/Tribute in very limited numbers; indeed, many models are already sold out. Only 650 bikes will be built. The Serial 1 only shows Medium models still in stock (see a sizing guide here). Serial 1 expects to deliver the bikes by this Christmas.
