Husqvarna Recalling Certain 2022 FE 350 And FE 501 Motos

Through its parent, KTM North America, Husqvarna is recalling certain 2022 Husqvarna FE 350 and Husqvarna FE 501 motorcycles.  According to this recall notice, the brake pad retaining “R” clips should be replaced with a new version.  Husqvarna says that the clips could fall out, resulting in the brake pad securing pin and brake pad holding bracket being lost and reduced front brake performance.

If this recall sounds familiar, it’s because the bikes have already been recalled for a similar issue.  Husky’s first recall called for inspection of the “R” clips for proper mounting.  This new recall will replace the “R” clips.

Husqvarna’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says up to 394 motorcycles are affected.

In its report, Husqvarna says:

“If the brake pad retaining “R” clips on the brake calipers become unmounted there is a possibility the clips can unfasten and fall out and get lost while riding.”

Describing the safety risk, Husqvarna says:

“This can result in the brake pad securing pin and brake pad holding bracket being lost which could reduce front braking performance.”

The motorcycles affected by this recall are as follows:

MAKE MODEL MODEL YEAR(S)
HUSQVARNA FE 350S 2022
HUSQVARNA FE 501S 2022

The affected VINs are as follows:

  • FE 350 VIN Range – Begin: VBKUAK403NM438868 – End: VBKUAK406NM438864
    Not sequential
  • FE 501 VIN Range – Begin: VBKUAG400NM224076 End: VBKUAG400NM224059
    Not sequential

To remedy the defect, Husqvarna will notify dealers and owners of this recall following the below notification schedule:

Planned Dealer Notification Date: JAN 13, 2022 – DEC 15, 2023
Planned Owner Notification Date: JAN 18, 2022 – JAN 18, 2022

FE 350 and FE 501 repair

Registered owners of the affected vehicles should take them to an authorized Husqvarna dealer.  The dealer will complete the remedy free of charge.  Motorcycles still in dealer stock will also receive recall repairs before delivery to retail customers.  Dealer technicians will replace the brake pad retaining “R” clips on the front and rear brake caliper.

Note that this time, Husqvarna is replacing the “R” clips on both the front and rear calipers of the motorcycle.  Husqvarna says that the new recall will:

“…replace the originally mounted retaining “R” clips with new version “R” clips that has an additional retaining mechanism. We are also replacing the retaining “R” clips on the rear brake caliper for consistency on the motorcycle. This is to prevent the mixing up of retaining “R” clips by equipping the motorcycle with like clips on both the front brake and rear brake caliper.”

Important notice

This recall supersedes NHTSA recall 21V-678 (i.e., the first “R” clip recall). Therefore, these motorcycles will need to have the new recall remedy performed even if the first recall has already been carried out.

Should owners have any questions, they may contact Husqvarna (i.e., KTM) customer service at 1-888-985-6090 and cite recall number HTB2111.  Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), quoting NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V014000, or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
