“Destination Paradise” might easily be the motto of the BMW International GS Trophy 2020 which has been revealed will take place in New Zealand. The participating nations now face a busy time, hosting their qualifiers and selecting their teams for this exciting and unique global adventure competition. A total of 19 international teams, plus an international female contingent will be selected during the next months.

The International GS Trophy is a celebration of the spirit of the BMW GS motorcycle, bringing together elements of leisure, adventure and challenge. The event is not a race but a team competition, pitching the GS-riding international contingent against each other in a series of challenges – not all involve riding. With the competitors camped nightly in a bivouac, the event also fosters a sense of brotherhood, sisterhood and camaraderie. Equally the GS Trophy is a celebration of culture and nature, the riders learning about and understanding the peoples and the terrains of the regions they encounter.

After the long days on the vast Mongolian Steppe of the 2018 Central Asia edition, New Zealand is going to provide a very different riding environment and experience for the qualifying GS riders, as Ralf Rodepeter, Product Management BMW Motorrad explains: “The variety of astounding landscapes from sea to volcanoes to high-altitude mountains, combined with the most beautiful vegetation and the rich Maori culture provide the perfect setting for what we think will be one of the most exciting Int. GS Trophies ever held.”

BMW GS riders can now register to compete for the opportunity to represent the USA in the International GS Trophy 2020 (see below for other nations). The USA qualifier will be held May 31 through June 2 at RawHyde’s new ZAKAR facility in California City for an entry fee of $349. This will be North America’s only qualifying event for a shot at glory in New Zealand.

Riders and spectators from far and wide will gather at ZAKAR to test their riding skills, physical fitness, and determination as they vie for one of three spots on Team USA in the 2020 event. This “Olympics of GS Riding” is an event unlike any other, and it’s one that you have to see in person to truly appreciate.

Participants must be registered owners of the BMW GS or HP2 Enduro model motorcycles on which they will compete. Riders representing Team USA will be selected on or before September 15, 2019 and will go on to compete in the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2020 in New Zealand.
