GIVI Launches Accessories Line for New Africa Twin Adventure Sports

Recommended Posts

Italy’s GIVI has announced a line of purpose-built accessories for Honda’s new 1100cc Africa Twin Adventure Sports, including optional windscreens, crash protection and, of course, travel-ready luggage systems.

As previously reported, Honda’s flagship adventure bike has undergone a substantial transformation, offering buyers upgraded suspension, more power, less weight and a raft of on-point electronics, all for a super lean $800 price bump over last year’s version. In fact, we just wrapped up extensive testing of the new Africa Twin, finding it much improved in all adventure riding conditions, and certainly worthy of some of these icing-on-the-cake accoutrements.

Rear Rack

GIVI’s Monokey and Monolock luggage systems are ready to go for the new Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports. You’ll need to add a rear rack to accommodate the company’s array of top-case options, ranging from GIVI’s old-school 32-liter Monolock plastic case (B32NMAL/$99) to the RTW-ready 58-liter Outback case (OBKN58BA/$633 in black).

The aluminum rack (SR1178) goes for $105, and allows you to attach any Monokey top case. It can also be combined with the Monolock plate to accept smaller top cases.

Pannier Racks

GIVI’s quick-release Monokey pannier racks (PLO1178MK/$290) are new for 2020 and accept any Monokey case as well as the GRT709 Gravel-T soft saddlebags ($699). The racks are made from 18mm gauge powder-coated steel and are said to be easily removable using a supplied tool.

If you’re looking to run the company’s more substantial Outback aluminum side cases you’ll want the Monokey Cam Outback side frames (PLO1178CAM/$320). This is GIVI’s most rugged mounting system, which uses a proprietary 4-point latching system and patented visual safety alert if the bags are not properly secured.

There are two GIVI replacement windscreens for the Africa Twin Adventure Sports, the D1178B is a low -h dark screen that bolts onto the original screen’s mounting points. Even though the stock screen on the Adventure Sports is fairly tall, this option is designed to offer good wind protection for longer rides along with improved visibility, plus the dark tint looks great on the bike.

If you’re planning to put some serious on-pavement miles on the AT AS, GIVI’s got you covered with a tall, clear windshield (D1178ST), which also adapts to the original screen’s mounting points. This touring screen, which goes for $120, measures 22.8 inches high x 16.3 inches wide.

Tanklock Tank Bag

Designed specifically for the Africa Twin,  the expandable tank bag uses the quick-release Tanklock  system. Basically, there is a lightweight, round adaptor plate (BF25/$18) that remains mounted on the bike’s tank, while the XS320 Expandable Tank Bag (XS320/$190) wears a matching plate that mates to the base, locking tight as you twist it to its straight position.

Engine Guards

GIVI is offering both lower and upper engine guard kits for the new Africa Twin which the company mentions are designed to provide “the best combination in terms of protection, weight and value.” The model-specific cages are made from 1”  tubular steel and powder-coated in black. The lower engine guards (TN1178) retail at $263, while the upper guard kit (TNH1178), which mates with the lower kit and protects the fairing and radiators, goes for $360.

Hand Guards

GIVI’s Hand Guards (EH1178/$99) are actually smoke-black plexiglass extensions that fit onto the stock hand guards to provide additional protection for your hands against the elements and minor impacts.

Hugger Mudguard

  • timthumb.php?src=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.advpu

GIVI makes a Hugger mudguard to help protect riders behind you from rear wheel spray in those extra messy situations. The mud guard is a universal design that fits a variety of models, but you’ll need special mounting hardware to adapt it to the Africa Twin Adventure Sports. The kit (RM1178KIT) will run you $111 while the mudguard itself (RM02) is another $99. Your riding buddies will thank you.

Fairing Bracket

GIVI offers a Fairing Bracket (FB1178/$49) that fits the new Africa Twin AS, which is a convenient place to mount your phone, GPS or other accessories.

Side Stand Foot Extension

GIVI’s Side Stand Foot Extension (ES1178/$53) is a handy little device that expands the footprint of your side stand, definitely handy for those stops on loose earth, but will also prevent the stock stand from sinking into hot pavement. The base of the Extension is made from billet aluminum while a steel bracket secures the unit to your existing stand.
