The KTM 200 Duke is coming to the US and Canada, bringing a budget option to the hooligan bike category.

Introduced back in 2012, the KTM 200 Duke has been sold all over the world ever since, but never in the US or Canada. The 200 is manufactured in India, with some markets getting machines assembled in Colombia, Argentina or the Philippines (no word where the North American bikes will be assembled). KTM says the 200 Duke will be available in late August, in both the US and Canada.

The version we’re getting in North America has a 199cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, with DOHC and four-valve head. Compression ratio is 11.5:1, and there’s a six-speed gearbox. Supposedly, output is around 26 horsepower. Of course, the engine is fuel-injected.

The frame is steel tubing, in a trellis arrangement. The subframe is removable, although that’s not really a big deal on a naked bike. There’s a 43mm WP Apex upside-down fork, and WP Apex monoshock. The monoshock has a linkless attachment to the swingarm, and you can adjust the preload. There’s no adjustment for the front forks.

Up front, there’s a 300mm brake disc with four-piston radially-mounted caliper, sourced from ByBre (Brembo’s Indian subisidiary). The rear brake has a single-piston caliper working with a 230mm disc. The 200 Duke has dual-channel Bosch ABS, with supermoto mode. In other words, you can turn the rear ABS function off, allowing all sorts of hooligan fun while still preventing the front wheel from locking up. Of course, the front and rear wheels are 17-inchers. KTM claims a dry weight of 309 pounds. The fuel tank holds 3.5 gallons.

Overall, styling is very similar to the larger machines in the Duke series. The gauges are LCD, not TFT, but aside from that—a very modern motorcycle.

The MSRP for the 200 Duke is $3,999 in the US, $4,599 in Canada. That’s not too far out of Honda Grom/Kawasaki Z125 category, and you’re arguably getting a lot more bike for your money. Of course, some people will still flock to the 125s because they want that circus clown look, but for others, the 200 option might be pretty appealing.
