Advpulse
BMW of North America has issued a recall on certain R1200GS models as well as other non-GS models for an issue with a leaking fuel pump flange. A total of 16,926 BMW motorcycles, from model years 2005-2012, may be affected by the recall issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. BMW GS models included in the recall are the 2005-2011 R1200 (GS, GS Adventure, R, RT, S, ST), 2006-2010 HP2 (Enduro, Megamoto, Sport), 2009-2011 K1300 (S, GT), 2010-2011 S1000 RR, 2005-2008 K1200 (R, R Sport, S, GT), and 2012 K1600 (GT, GTL). This safety recall involves the fuel pump, and potentially the auxiliary fuel pump as well. According to the defect report, motorcycles involved previously received a support ring repair under a 2014 recall number 13V-617, which also dealt with a potential leak at the fuel pump. Vehicles that received the earlier recall remedy, which did not have a fuel pump replacement at a later date, may have a fuel pump flange that cracks and possibly leaks overtime. What Could Happen ADVERTISEMENT The NHTSA recall report states that a cracked fuel pump flange may result in a fuel leak while the engine is running. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
