KTM is recalling all 2021 model year electric motor KTM SX-E 5 and Husqvarna EE-5 closed course/competition mini-motorcycles due to a battery vent valve problem.  According to a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall, “Consumers should immediately stop riding the recalled motorcycles and contact an authorized KTM or Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer, respective of their motorcycle brand.”

Each of the recall machines will have the letter M in the tenth position of the vehicle identification number (VIN).  Owners will find each bike’s VIN on the right side of the steering head.  As of the time of this writing, no injuries have been reported.

Apparently, the problem is due to “nonconformities.”  The battery vent valve may be missing, and water may be able to leak into the battery. As a result, the water could cause a short circuit and create a crash hazard.  Unfortunately, KTM/Husqvarna doesn’t provide much more information.  But the immediate “stop riding” order seems to signify that the issue could be serious.

KTM/Husqvarna says that owners should contact an authorized KTM or Husqvarna dealer as appropriate and schedule a repair.  Owners should cite recall number 21-727.  If necessary, dealers will provide the repair free of charge.  KTM/Husqvarna says that the check of the battery vent valve will take approximately 10 minutes.  If a retrofit of the battery vent valve is necessary, the repair should take approximately 25 minutes.

If you have any questions, you should contact KTM and Husqvarna Motorcycles North America toll-free at 888-985-6090 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.  Also, owners can check for additional information online at https://www.ktm.com/us/ or http://www.husqvarna-motorcycles.com and click on Service.  Then select Safety for more information.
