advrider
KTM is recalling certain 2020 1290 Super Duke R motorcycles. In its defect report to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), KTM says there is a possibility of damage to the wiring harness. The affected harness is located in the tail end lower part of the subframe. In total, this recall affects 521 units. The potential damage is the result of misrouting of the wiring harness wires which could create the possibility of an electrical short. If a short circuit does occur, the motorcycle may not start. More worryingly, the engine may also quit unexpectedly during operation. KTM North America found the potential defect and notified KTM AG, the motorcycle’s manufacturer. After an investigation, KTM AG’s quality control department determined that a recall should be conducted for all model year 2020 KTM Super Duke R motorcycles. To remedy the problem, authorized KTM dealers will inspect the wiring harness located in the rear part of the motorcycle for damage. If necessary, dealers will repair the harness. In addition, dealers will modify a piece of the bike’s bodywork called the “tail end lower part” to correct the routing of the wiring harness. They will also add wiring protection and cable ties to prevent any other damage to the wiring. Dealers will perform all work free of charge. This recall is currently in progress. KTM North America is notifying all registered owners of the affected motorcycles by mail. Dealers are being notified through the KTM Dealernet platform. For additional information, owners may contact authorized KTM dealers and cite KTM recall number TB2104. Owners may also contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 citing NHTSA campaign number 21V122000. More information may also be found on NHTSA’s webpage for this recall. Vezi sursa
