advrider
It looks like KTM and VARTA are looking towards the future. And, that future appears to be an electrically powered one. The two Austrian partners have reportedly agreed to develop high-efficiency battery systems for electrically powered two-wheelers. In a Pierer Mobility press release, the companies are announcing that Stefan Pierer and Michael Tojner will cooperate more closely in the e-mobility sector. In doing so, the companies plan to “…send a strong signal in and from Europe with highly efficient battery systems in the electric two-wheeler sector.” The two businesses seem well-positioned to take their intentions into production. VARTA AG is a leading European manufacturer of Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) cells. They are a “global innovation and technology leader.” PIERER Mobility AG, which owns the KTM, Husqvarna, and GASGAS brands, is Europe’s largest European “powered two-wheeler” manufacturer. Battery development As such, the partners see great potential for the development of a platform battery. The new battery would see use in light electric vehicles using 48-volt technology with peak outputs of approximately 20kW. Talking about the agreement, the CEO of KTM, Stefan Pierer, said: “Through our innovative strength, we see ourselves as a technology leader in the two-wheeler sector in Europe and want to set the tone especially in the development of two-wheeled electric vehicles.” VARTA’s CEO, Michael Tojner, believes that his company can and will lead the development of large battery cell formats: “With VARTA Innovation in Graz, we are strongly positioned for VARTA AG’s materials research and development in Austria. The site is being massively expanded to drive the development of large battery cell formats for electromobility.” Focus areas Specifically, the two companies will focus on the following areas: Cooperation in the areas of research, development, and production Joint marketing and sales activities Take-back, recycling, and 2nd life of batteries So it’s now clear that Stefan Pierer sees the electrification of motorcycles as a significant issue for the future. This partnership could be a large step towards PIERER Mobility companies producing electric motorcycles for the street. Vezi sursa
