After about eight months off the bike, Marc Marquez is preparing to return to the racetrack.  Sidelined by a broken humerus requiring two separate surgeries, it appears that Marquez may be close to returning to the MotoGP grid.

The Spaniard said that he intends to return to the track in Qatar.  Whether it will be the first or second round of the Qatar doubleheader is unclear.

In a recent Marquez Instagram post, the eight-time World Champion  said:

“After eight months and after the Doctors approval in the last check-up, I finally felt this feeling again although it was with a mini moto!”

On March 16th, Marquez took to riding a bike similar to his MotoGP race machine at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on a Honda RC213V-S.

While the RC213V-S is a track-ready machine, it is different than the MotoGP prepared RC213-V.  The biggest difference between the two is that the “-S” bike does not have the MotoGP bike’s pneumatic valve system.  As a result, it makes much less horsepower – 212 HP vs. about 240 – 250 HP of the MotoGP machine.

Nonetheless, the bike can act as an excellent tool for assessing a rider’s fitness.  Pumping up Marquez’s return is an Instagram video showing the preparation of the “S” spec bike and a few shots of him on the track.

The same day, Marquez’s Twitter account shows several pictures from the day with the hashtag #stepbystep.

Hacía tiempo que no disfrutaba tanto! ✊🏼

The tweet said, “It has been a while since I enjoyed so much!”  But Marquez did not say how he felt and what his level of fitness is.  However, it’s clear that he’s trying hard to be ready for Qatar at the end of March or Early April.
