Watch Backcountry Discovery Routes’ 10-year retrospective

Backcountry Discovery Routes has a new film out, detailing the organization’s exploration and adventures of the past decade.

Normally, Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) would be releasing a new movie detailing the group’s exploration in an area. Every year, BDR organizers and volunteers travel a new region to scout the most entertaining paved and unpaved roads, stringing them together (with options varying in difficulty) for a final free-to-download GPS file. They tend to focus on rarely-visited regions, with an emphasis on supporting local restaurants and other businesses along the way.

When the new GPS route is ready for unveiling, the BDR organization releases a film documenting the route; pay to watch it, and you support the group’s work.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible this year, thanks to COVID-19 wrecking plans. Instead, the people at BDR give us this 10-year retrospective on the group’s work. It debuted live on YouTube on May 16. As per BDR’s description, ” This new film tells the story of a decade-long journey of the BDR organization from its ragtag beginnings to becoming a well-respected name in the adventure community.”

Along with the new film, Backcountry Discovery Routes had some other announcements over the weekend. Nathan Fant, a longtime ambassador for the organization, comes on board as Routes Manager. He’s already been a volunteer with BDR for nearly five years. Now, “Nathan will be keeping track of the latest route conditions, ensuring that we’re able to provide riders with the most up to date information, and help with the development of future BDR routes.”
