According to Indiacarnews.com, Honda is working to strengthen its presence in the 200cc to 500cc market in India.  Bikes in this category often fall into the premium segment there.  In the recent past, Honda released several new models in India, including the Hornet 2.0 (based on the made-for-China CB 190X) and the CB350 range.  But now, Honda is word marking (trademarking) the name Honda NX200 for motorcycles and their parts and fittings.

The filing is spurring quite a bit of conjecture on what type of bike will take the new name.  Inidacarnews.com thinks that since Honda sells dual sport/adventure category motorcycles under like the NX-4, NX500 Dominator, NX250, and others under the NX nameplate, that Honda may be preparing to release a small-displacement adventure bike in India.

As such, they say that the NX200 could be the Japanese company’s next 200cc adventure motorcycle.  Further, they believe that Big Red may use the Hornet 2.0 platform, which is based on CB 190X.  The adventure touring CB 190X is being built for the Chinese market.  And, that bike uses a 184cc fuel-injected, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces about 16 HP at 8,000 RPM.  It also has a longer travel suspension.

Indiacarnews also points to a statement from Atsushi Ogata, President, CEO & MD, Honda India who reportedly said that Honda India’s new Hornet 2.0 platform could be used for different categories, including the adventure segment.

Obviously, it’s not abundantly clear what the NX200 will be.  But one thing is for certain, Honda is staking its claim to the NX200 nameplate, and NX machines have been dual-sport and adventure category machines.
