German manufacturer BMW Motorrad (BMW) and Indian manufacturer TVS may be working on a new small-displacement adventure bike.  According to the Indian outlet GaadiWaddi.com, the two companies’ previous partnerships have worked well.

Its previous relationship with BMW helped them bring the Apache RR 310 to market.  The single-cylinder fully-faired Apache RR 310 sportbike has become the company’s flagship model in the Indian market.  But TVS wasn’t the only company to benefit from the partnership.  The team came up with the BMW G 310 GS adventure bike and the G 310 R naked bike.

So it’s not a long shot to think that TVS would like to bring similar models of its own using what it learned with BMW’s 310 platforms.  Building its own adventure and naked machines based on the BMW models would allow TVS to bring more “premium” level bikes to its product line for the Indian market.

New bike coming?

According to GaadiWaadi, in a December 2020 interview, K. N. Radhakrishnan, President, CEO of TVS Motor Company, hinted that it could launch a new motorcycle based on the 310 cc platform sometime during the following year (2021).  If either of the aforementioned bikes come to fruition, it would become the fourth product co-developed by BMW and the TVS.

GaadiWaadi says that the bike will likely use the same 312cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine found in the Apache RR310.  That engine makes approximately 34 hp and 20 lb-ft of torque.   The bike also has a fly-by-wire setup.  That means that the new model might benefit from things like different ride modes and other technology-based aids.

With TVS building the bike, you can assume that its price will likely undercut BMW’s offerings.  We’ll have to wait and see what the Indian manufacturer has up its sleeve for 2021.
