Honda is announcing its new Cota 301RR from its Montesa subsidiary.   Montesa says the new machine celebrates a rich history that goes back even longer than its parent company Honda.  Honda says the new Montesa Cota 301RR pays homage to Montesa’s 75th anniversary.

The Montesa Cota 301RR is a competition-focused model that adopts most of its components and technical solutions from 28-time FIM World Trials Champion Toni Bou.

The bike features a 298cc liquid-cooled single stroke, four-valve, four-cylinder engine with programmed fuel injection.  Montesa says that the engine produces 16% more power and torque than the 300RR.

Front suspension is comprised of a 39mm Formula Tech fork using aluminum stanchions for weight reduction.   At the rear is a Pro-Link™ system with a single Showa shock adjustable for preload, compression, and rebound while offering a 6.6-inch stroke.

According to Montesa, the bike’s “…power is biased to the low end and midrange for the smooth, tractable delivery that is vital for maintaining traction in technical conditions, even with the sudden bursts of acceleration common in trials riding.”

The Cota 301RR has a decompression system featuring a 2.3mm crankcase breather tube to reduce engine braking.  It helps the rider to maintain traction during deceleration.

As a trials machine, weight is extremely important.  All up, the Cota 301RR weighs in at 169 pounds dry.  Not that you’ll be sitting on it, but the bike’s seat height is a measly 36 inches.  To reduce unsprung weight, the machine’s wheel hubs are aluminum.  Also keeping the bike’s operating weight down is a small 0.5-gallon fuel tank.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the Montesa Cota 301RR is $11,699.  Look for the bike to be available at dealers sometime in July.
