advrider
Indian is bringing another heating/cooling seat to the lineup, with introduction of the ClimaCommand Comfort Seat for its Challenger lineup. The first ClimaCommand seat hit the market in July of 2020, built to fit Indian’s Thunder Stroke models. The design uses three elements to provide cooling. There’s a proprietary thermoelectric module that pumps heat away from the rider, a duct system that cools the thermoelectric module. The seat uses graphene, a highly conductive/flexible material to permeate the heating/cooling while keeping the seat comfortable. Here’s how we explained the original seat, when it debuted: To directly regulate the temperature of the seat, electricity is applied to the thermoelectric module causing one side of the module to absorb heat and the opposing side to dissipate heat. By reversing the electrical flow, the hot and cold temperatures alternate sides. A graphene material, which is a nanomaterial created from 100% carbon atoms, is then used to ensure that the heating and cooling are dispersed throughout the entire seat. The original ClimaCommand seat had separate, adjustable level controls for both the pillion and rider. The new seat works on the exact same principle, it’s just made for the Challenger series. The Indian press release says Available now for model year 2019-2021 Indian Challenger models, the well-cushioned seat provides adjustable heating and cooling for the rider seat and the slightly elevated passenger perch. Both riders and passengers can select one of three levels (low, medium, high) in both heating and cooling via integrated buttons. In addition, the ClimaCommand Comfort seat seamlessly integrates within the Challenger’s seven-inch RideCommand infotainment system – making it even easier to control and manage heating and cooling settings. It sounds like the pinnacle of luxury, but it’ll cost you dearly. Pricing starts at $1,200, which is more than many of us paid for our first motorcycle (and second, and third, and fourth …).
