Here’s your first official look at the Aprilia Tuareg 660

After months of teasing, Aprilia has finally given us our first company-approved peek at the new Tuareg 660 adventure bike.

The snap comes courtesy of Instagram, with a photo of the new twin-cylinder ADV resting in a field of sand dunes, with the words “It’s back. Enjoy the first look!”

Aprilia is making reference to the original Tuareg ADV bike, which Aprilia debuted in the mid-’80s as Europeans caught on to the idea of adventure bikes and rally raid. The Tuareg saw some success at Dakar, but never became a dominant machine in the desert or on salesroom floors, either. Still, Aprilia has its fans, like all Italian bike brands, and it’s a name that’s probably better-known in the EU and UK than it is in the USA.

Although Aprilia sometimes messes around with small-bore ADVs in other markets, we got our first clue that the Tuareg would return in 2019, when Aprilia cleverly sneaked it into its EICMA display.

The Tuareg name might be recycled from history, but the new 660 engine is not. This parallel twin first debuted in the RS660 sportbike and more recently appeared in the Tuono 660 naked bike. It’s supposed to be Aprilia’s idea of a more budget-minded engine, to make exotic, sporty motorcycles with a lower price tag.

Along with the sneak peak of the bike on Instagram, Aprilia has a few other graphics and details about the bike now listed at its website. In the Tuareg, the 660 engine will make 80 horsepower and 51 pound-feet of torque. Dry weight is 187 kilograms, and fuel capacity is 18 litres.
