KTM Recalling Certain Vitpilen 701, & Svartpilen 701

KTM North America is recalling certain 2018 – 2020 Husqvarna 701 Vitpilen and 2019 – 2020 Svartpilen motorcycles.  The problem stems from the misalignment of the bike’s license plate holder.  According to the recall:

“On affected motorcycles, it is possible that the alignment of the gear teeth on
the license plate holder and swingarm may be positioned incorrectly.”

During the assembly, the gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm
may have incorrect alignment, which may result in the rear wheel axle nut
becoming loose and cause the license plate bracket to fall down and contact the
rear wheel.

It’s not clear how the:

Misalignment of the bracket may cause the rear axle nut to loosen, which may
cause injury to the rider or others and/or damage to property.

But in any event, it’s never a good thing when parts of your bike may cause the rear axle nut to loosen or have any part of your motorcycle contact your rear wheel.

The Husqvarna Svartpilen 701.

A total of 1,506 motorcycles are affected.  The models being recalled are as follows:

To remedy the problem, dealers will inspect and realign the gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm which may have been positioned incorrectly.   Dealers will also inspect the tightness of the rear wheel axle collar.  All service will be provided free of charge to the owner.
