KTM North America, Husqvarna, and GASGASs’ US importer is increasing the list of motorcycles recalled due to the potential for front brake failure.  The initial National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall affected Husqvarna FE350 and FE501 models.  According to the recall, the front brake caliper’s “R” clips may be mounted incorrectly.  Specifically, the recall said that if:

“…the brake pad retaining “R” clips on the front brake caliper are mounted incorrectly there is a possibility the clips can unfasten and fall out and get lost while riding.  This can result in the brake pad securing pin and brake pad holding bracket being lost which could reduce front braking performance and possibly lead to an accident, injury and/or consequential property damage.

CPSC jurisdiction and recall

But now, a new recall issued through the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) adds other KTM family motorcycles.  CPSC recall 22-702 affects the following models:

MAKE MODEL YEAR
HUSQVARNA TE 150i 2022
HUSQVARNA TE 250i 2022
HUSQVARNA TE 300i 2022
GASGAS EC 300 2021
GASGAS EC 250 2022

Note: Whereas each of these bikes are off-road machines, the CPSC has recall jurisdiction.

Accordingly, if your motorcycle is subject to this recall, the CPSC says:

“Consumers should immediately stop riding the recalled closed course competition motorcycles and contact an authorized Husqvarna or GASGAS Motorcycles dealer to schedule a free repair, which involves inspecting the retaining “R” clips for correct mounting.”

If you would like a detailed explanation of the nature of this recall, refer to our article on NHTSA’s recall on certain Husqvarna FE350 and FE501 motorcycles.

This CPSC recall affects about 1,840 motorcycles in the USA and 265 in Canada.

“Model year 2021 motorcycles will have the letter M in the 10th position of the vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN number is located on the right side of the steering head.”

Model year 2022 motorcycles will have the letter N in the 10th position of the vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN number is located on the right side of the steering head.

If your machine is subject to this recall, the CPSC says:

“Consumers should immediately stop riding the recalled closed course competition motorcycles and contact an authorized Husqvarna or GASGAS Motorcycles dealer to schedule a free repair, which involves inspecting the retaining “R” clips for correct mounting.”
