MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Nurburgring Edition: More flash, more muscle

Although we’ve been promised new MV Agusta platforms for months now, we’re still waiting for those new bikes to be released. While we twiddle our thumbs, MV Agusta does continue to release updated variations of its current platforms, though, including this just-announced Nurburgring Edition version of the Brutale 1000 naked bike.

What’s so special about this new bike, besides the obvious name-check for Germany’s Nurburgring track complex? MV Agusta stuffed even more machismo into this hypernaked, with a hot-rodded engine and flash bodywork.

The DOHC inline four is the same basic engine that MV Agusta uses for the Brutale 1000 RR, with four valves per cylinder, DLC-treated tappets, two fuel injectors per cylinder, and MV Agusta’s third-generation quickshifter. However, the Nurburgring edition also has titanium exhaust from Arrow in 4-2-1 configuration, and ECU map dedicated to getting max muscle from the revised system. That bumps the Nurburgring-edition bike to 215 horsepower, up from the 208 horsepower of the standard Brutale RR 1000.

That’s a lot of power for a naked bike, although most users probably won’t be able to take full advantage of all that horsepower unless they’re on a track. The other changes might be more noticeable, though—MV Agusta gave this bike the full carbon-fibre treatment, with trick wheels from BST as well as lots of carbon-fibre bodywork (flyscreen, body panels, heat shield). This should cut some weight, although it might not make you any faster either—but at least you’ll look good.

The Nurbrugring Edition machine should have the same general electronics package as the standard Brutale 1000, with ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, leaning ABS, and so on.

At this point, we’ve seen no indication of US availability, but Euro customers will pay a whopping €39,900 for this machine. Better start saving! And, you’d better get your down payment in pretty quickly, as there will only be 150 of these machines made.
