advrider
Triumph is celebrating today as it marks a significant milestone—a million bikes made in the Hinckley era! The Hinckley years Triumph, of course, has been around forever. The original iteration traced its roots back to 1902 (before Harley-Davidson’s founding, but after Indian and Royal Enfield). In the post-World War II era, Triumph was one of the world’s top motorcycle manufacturers, selling bikes all over the world, including fast, sporty production bikes, desert sleds and anything else consumers wanted. And then, Japanese manufacturers made machines that were faster and more reliable than anything else available, at excellent pricing. Triumph went out of business, along with all the other Brit bike manufacturers who wouldn’t update and change their bikes. By the early 1980s, while vultures were picking over the bones of the rest of the British motorcycle industry, John Bloor bought the rights to what was left of Triumph. He spent the rest of the decade putting together a plan to bring Triumph back, with significant inspiration from Japanese motorcycle manufacturing techniques and philosophies. By 1990, there was a new Triumph factory in Hinckley, Leicestershire, making 1991 models. The early Triumph years saw the company working on exciting new sportbikes, roadsters, retros and naked bikes, and eventually, a strong line of adventure bikes. Three decades after the Hinckley era began, the company is now up to one million motorcycles manufactured, and the millionth bike is … a special-edition Tiger 900 Rally Pro! What’s next? We expect a new Tiger 1200 in coming weeks, and Triumph is also working on plans for an electric bike, new made-in-India models, and much more. Just guessing—the next million bikes will happen in much less than 30 years. Vezi sursa
