Harley Recalls Certain 2021 Pan America Motorcycles

Harley-Davidson (Harley) is recalling certain 2021 Pan America RA 1250 S and RA 1250 motorcycles.  According to Harley’s recall notice, the motorcycle’s seat base may not be appropriately fastened, which could cause the hand-hold portion of the base to fracture.

Harley’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says up to 2,689 Pan America motorcycles may have this issue.

In its report, Harley says:

“The Seat Base on certain Pan America (RA) motorcycles may lose threaded insert retention at one or more of the fastening locations.  Field data suggests this condition is most likely to develop as a result of the operator applying upward load on the hand-hold portion of the seat base while deploying the center stand.”

Describing the safety risk, Harley says:

If the hand-hold portion of the Seat Base fractures while a passenger is using the hand hold feature with the vehicle in motion, it may increase the risk of injury.”

The motorcycles affected by this recall are as follows:

Specifically, motorcycles within the production build range of 03/08/2021 through 10/13/2021 are part of the recall population.

To remedy the defect, Harley will notify dealers and owners of this recall following the below notification schedule:

Planned Dealer Notification Date: DEC 01, 2021 – DEC 08, 2021
Planned Owner Notification Date : DEC 06, 2021 – DEC 13, 2021

Pan America repair

The Seat Base, part number 47200713, will be replaced with an updated part.  Owners of affected motorcycles should arrange service with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer.  The dealer will perform the remedy at no charge to the customer.
