advrider
In the 1964 Jacobellis v. Ohio obscenity case, Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart famously stated that he wouldn’t define hardcore pornography, but that he when he saw it. I’m going to make a similar claim about this 23-minute film featuring construction of a paper model of a Suzuki Hayabusa. I’m not going to attempt to define “art,” but I know it when I see it—and this YouTube video is art, as much as any short film that screens at Cannes. [embedded content] It’s the best kind of art, too. This could be the perfect elixir for frustrated motorcyclist like myself (currently snowed-in, in Canada, months away from proper riding weather). It doesn’t give you actual riding footage, which only titillates and frustrates. Instead, it offers another idea, another option for enjoying moto-life, and maybe life in general. Everything about this film fits perfectly: The music, the dialog (written-out, not spoken), the camera work, and the careful attention to detail. And, the thought process behind the whole project. The creativity in making this from scratch, and painstakingly building even the engine internals, is incredible. Who builds a paper gearbox for an engine in a model bike, when you can’t even really see it? And pistons? And a timing chain? It might be the most beautifully put-together model motorcycle I’ve ever seen. It’s all the better because it’s entirely self-created, unlike the folding-paper models that the Japanese motorcycle companies occasionally offered in the past (remember Yamaha’s Paper Craft website? It’s gone now, but you can still find traces on the Internet). Vezi sursa
