advrider
Kyle Peters has won another AMA Arenacross title, and in doing so, you might say he’s established a dynasty. This was the third championship in a row for Peters. He rides for the Phoenix Racing Honda team, and it was the fourth championship in a row for Phoenix Racing, which also won the title with Jace Owen in 2019. Even more impressive: After winning every single race in the 2021 Arenacross season, Peters almost did the same in 2022, winning 19 of 20 main events. He finished 222 points ahead of the next-closest rider, and the only time he didn’t win was the season-opener, when he finished second overall. In perhaps the greatest understatement of the 2022 race year, Peters said that this was a “great season.” In fact, he says finishing second in that first race took a lot of pressure off him. When I first tried the new bike during the off-season, it was a lot different, but I knew right away it was going to be a great platform for Arenacross. Coming in, there were obviously high expectations from last year. I wanted to keep the win streak going, but unfortunately some things happened at the first round. Honestly, I think that took a weight off my shoulders, and from then on, it was head down, hammer down. I had a couple races where I made things hard on myself – like crashing in Oklahoma and getting a bad start this weekend – but I was able to get through those and win, and to take the championship again. Phoenix Racing is properly chuffed at its result of course, especially as Peters’ teammate Cullin Park managed fifth overall, despite injury in the earlier races. Now that Arenacross is done for the year, the team looks to tackle AMA Supercross 250SX East and the GNCC series. The races must go on.
