advrider
The Great Helmet Lineup Turnover continues, with HJC one of many manufacturers coming out with new models in face of changing regulations in Europe. The result: The HJC C80. The HJC C80 is a flip-front helmet that also features an ADV-style peak. This hybrid style was very rare a few years ago, but it’s not hard to find one now. However, due to the added complexity, these helmets tend to cost a little more, although that’s not a universal rule. The new C80 comes in at a fairly sensible price point, with UK MSRP starting at £209.99 for plain color helmets. That’s roughly $285 US, or $365 CAD. For that money, you get a polycarbonate shell, a face shield that’s supposed to offer a wide field of view, an internal drop-down sun shield, and large vents which are supposed to flow plenty of air while being easy to use while wearing gloves. As for that ADV-style visor, it’s removable, which should certainly make longer rides much more enjoyable, especially when you’re on the highway, or you’re fighting strong winds. HJC also says the flip-front is easy to use with gloves on, and that the helmet is compatible with the Smart HJC system (which is actually a rebadged Sena system, designed to easily mount onto the HJC lineup). No doubt the new C80 is coming as a response to the new European helmet standards (see our write-up here). As such, we might end up waiting a while for it to arrive in North America. If it does arrive here at a price similar to the Euro MSRP, it will compete with the Scorpion EXO-950 and the Fly Racing Street Odyssey, which both sell in the sub-$300 range at online retailers. For now, if you want one, you’ll have to figure out how to acquire it from overseas—see HJC’s Euro site here, for more details and colors.
