advrider
Check it out! Honda has finally answered the pleas for an electric dirt bike, and given us the CRF-E2. Errrrrr, not quite. This new machine does indeed bear the CRF badge, same as Honda’s other famous enduros and dual sports, but Honda doesn’t build the machine. It’s actually a rebadged machine from Greenger Powersports. As such, it appears the bike only has the CRF badging, not the Honda nameplate. It will be sold in Honda dealerships, however, with an MSRP of $2,950. Here are the important numbers: The CRF-E2 has a 48V motor with 1.2 kW of power at 2,000 rpm, and max output of 5 kW. That works out to roughly 1.6 hp and 3.3 hp respectively. Not a powerhouse by any means, but this is intended to replace the power of a four-stroke 49cc minibike, not a full-power motocrosser. Note that max torque is 18 lb-ft, which certainly makes up for the low horsepower. There are two drive modes, just in case cautious parents want to limit the bike’s output. The bike’s electric powertrain is air-cooled, and relies on a li-ion battery. The battery is swappable, and only weighs 13 lb, so parents can easily pull the battery and swap out for a freshly-charged unit if needed. The battery will charge to 100 percent in four hours, and 80 percent in two hours. It’s supposed to last for two hours of riding. The CRF-E2 comes with an aluminum frame and 12-inch wheels. It weighs 106 lb (48 kg) and is intended for riders 99 lb (45 kg) or smaller. For the rest of the specs, check out Greenger’s website.
