advrider
Yamaha fans in Europe will get to see the brand’s new electric scooter soon, since, as Yamaha calls it, specifically, the “NEO’S,” launches there in May 2022. Not to be confused with the existing NEO’s 4, one of Yamaha’s existing gas-powered scooters, the NEO’s Electric features cool LED lighting, a swappable battery, and apparently has an affinity for European dance halls, yoga studios, and video games. [embedded content] How Swappable Is the Battery? Yamaha is part of the Swappable Battery Consortium, but that agreement has only made the research phase. We can’t guarantee the batteries in the NEO’s (please don’t ask me how it’s pronounced) is swappable to anything but the NEO’s itself. That said, having a spare (though it weighs 18lbs) battery to carry with you into the office (or wherever else you’re going) to charge for the day is pretty darn convenient. What’s Its Range? The scooter comes with one battery, and you can purchase a spare so that you can put two in it at once, to (nearly) double the range from fully-charged, from 23 miles to 42. There’s no word yet on the cost of a second battery, but adding one will take up most of the cargo space the scooter has. These lithium-ion batteries’ stats: 50volt, 1kWh, 19 amp. Not too long ago, we brought you news of a new Yamaha scooter with a swappable battery, called the EMF. This is not that. The EMF’s performance is equivalent to a 125cc scooter, which is quite a lot more powerful than the NEO’s. Accessories and Stats Even though the NEO’s is a tiny thing, you can get a top case and a passenger backrest for it. The seat height is a bit over 31 inches, and as shipped weighs just shy of 210lbs, so it is no toy. The suspension travels 3.5 inches and 3.1 inches, respectively, on its 13-inch wheels front and back. The rear wheel houses the electric motor, and that direct drive means no power loss to belts or chains. There’s also a drum brake in there (hydraulic disc up front) and the single-side swingarm design simplifies both access to that motor and rear tire replacement. The scooter’s dash connects to your smartphone with Yamaha’s MyRide app, which tells you all about the state of your NEO’s, including where you parked it. MSRP for the NEO’s will be £3005 (about €3580 or $3920). Vezi sursa
